Prabhu Deva's "Bollywood" Directorial Debut
I love this guy! I'm so excited to see what he comes up with even though his movie will be starring Salman Khan. It begins filming in June of this year.
Prabhu is big in "Kollywood" aka the Tamil-language film industry and has choreographed many films. This man has the hottest dance moves. They call him the Michael Jackson of India, but I think that's not accurate.
Here's some of his slick moves in a dance sequence from 1995's Kadhalan.
Dhoom 2 Review
I was pretty much expecting a really awful movie, but was pleasantly surprised.
The opening dance sequence for the horrendously awful song Dhoom Again was the best of all the movie. Hritik is a really good dancer and I was happy to see that choreographer Shiamak has laid off the pop-n-lock. Maybe my expectations were really low, so that's why I was entertained? It also helped that the theatre was full of people who were very animated & jeering at the screen in all the right spots.
In NYC, you can check out Dhoom 2 at the ImaginAsianTheatre.
Padmini 6/12/32 - 9/24/06
Padmini appeared in over 350 films. Dubbing wasn't needed as she was fluent in Hindi, Malayalam, tamil, Kannada, and Telugu. Although classically trained in dance, she was able to cross over boundaries & styles. She is partly credited for the "pseudo-classical" style that has influenced the choreography that is prevalent in popular Indian Cinema. She also created the Padmini School of Fine Arts in NJ, which is the oldest school of its kind in the US.
